WHAT IS A POSTPARTUM DOULA
A Postpartum Doula in many ways “mothers the mother”. My goal, as a Doula, is to ensure mom is feeling good physically and emotionally and for your family, as a whole, to feel confident in their new roles. I will listen to your cares, concerns and take care of your needs.
The term “It takes a village” is such an accurate description of what is necessary to care for a child, especially what is needed to take care of a family during this postpartum time. Did you know there are still areas all around the world where the “village” takes care of the mother postpartum? It isn’t something that must be planned or prepared in advance by the mother, but rather, it is just done because it is written into their culture and history. They do this because they know there is great value in nurturing a mother after she has just brought life into this world. They understand that although giving birth is natural and happens all the time, it is still sacred every single time and the mother needs time to recover. They see that her time to bond with her baby is of the utmost importance so they ensure she is given that opportunity. This need to be taken care of is valid for every single mother all around the world. And as a postpartum doula, this is what I want to make sure you receive after your birth.
